LISTEN TO YOUR DREAMS

God visits Solomon in a dream, and the scripture story nowhere tells us that Solomon awoke to have this conversation with God! So, still in his dream, Solomon answers God’s question about what he desires most, and God grants his request for wisdom in abundance.

In our waking hours, we are much distracted by work, home, family, traffic, entertainment, and many worries. When we try to think about what we really want out of life, we have trouble even imagining what that might be. But deep inside, our real longings dwell, known to God and to the Holy Spirit. Our dreams, unencumbered by defenses, may hold clues to what our deepest needs are, or what bothers us most. They could be God speaking.

The Women’s Group is helping families in the community who can’t afford to buy school supplies. Here are a few items needed. The full lists are in the hall. Crayons, Ticonderoga pencils, glue sticks, block erasers, pencil top erasers, child scissors, white copy paper, construction paper, colored copy paper, wide ruled notebook paper, Kleenex & Lysol wipes.

Homeschool Co-op — Donation Needs

St. John Enrichment Co-op is in need of some items as the school year begins for students & nursery. If you are interested in donating something on the list below, please drop it in the donation box in the hall. Thank you for your support! Needs: 4 hand sanitizers; 9 containers Lysol cleaning wipes; 4 - 18 gallon bins; 20 pocket folders; Pencils; Individually wrapped snacks; Foam play mat; Small baby/toddler noiseless toys.

New Water Cooler

We have a new water cooler in the hall that dispenses cold and hot water. Cups are on the top of the cooler. Please throw your cups in the trashcan.

Reflecting on the Word

The parables that give us images to ponder the great mystery of God’s reign are greatly appealing to children. The image of the precious pearl and the treasure are some of the favorite works that the children do in the atrium where we gather. They look at the pearls and wonder why someone would give up all that for one pearl. Some of them say that it is because he needed the money to pay for the precious pearl. As they continue to ponder this over several months, they say, “He didn’t need anything else. Everything was in the one precious pearl.” I push for them to think carefully and ask, “What is this everything that was in the pearl?” One child said that it was filled with God, and the merchant did not need any of the other pearls. Children go on the connect the pearl (as the image of the Kin-dom of God) with other biblical and liturgical elements. As they grow into the elementary years, they associate the pearl with their own participation in various ways.

These parables seem so simple and short, but they go to the core of our faith in that they are necessary to help us know the Kin-dom of God in all its wonder. The first reading relates the story of Solomon asking God for wisdom. That is Solomon’s treasure. And with this he collaborates with God for the coming of the Kin-dom of Love.
